Pagans - could you explain the phenomenon of one's birthplace exerting a pull?

I was born and brought up in an area of extreme natural beauty called the Malverns, which is a group of towns surrounding an impressive ridge of hills formed of volcanic granite. The area attracts thousands of visitors all year round for its extreme beauty. It has numerous springs, wells, woods, forests, valleys etc. I moved out when I was 12 to a horrible city and ever since have felt a great pressure and pull to move back (I am now 29). Every time I visit to see my grandmother, who grew up there as did her parents and grandparents (and their ancestors), I feel a great sense of peace. I am not a Pagan but I feel such an affiliation with the land in Malvern that I feel I need to ask this of Pagans. Can you explain this to me and also suggest some prayers perhaps that i could say to the spirit of the place?
